Hello!! In 2025, this site was supposed to be my gyaru blog, but I never finished setting it up LOL. Fast forward to 2026 and it's finally come to life!!!
I've been gal since 2024 and have loved J-Fashion since 2014
Fun fact: the way I got into gyaru goes back to my first Neocities! I discovered Egg Magazine while looking at references for my old site; its homepage was inspired by magazine spreads. I used Pinterest to look at FRUiTS scans and it ended up recommending Egg too. Even though I didn't really use the gyaru zines as inspiration for my site theme, I never skipped a scan because the models' styles were soooo cute!!!
(Slightly Unrelated Note: I'm mainly referring to photoshoots from 1998-2011. I've been avoiding the revival of Egg like the plague.)
I loved how they coordinated simple garments into a bold look. I was able to work with the clothes that I already had! I just had to learn how to do the make up (^_^)
As a transmasc, gyaru has been a surprisingly gender euphoric experience. I've always loved "girly" things, but I hated knowing that I'm generally perceived as a girl. The hyperfemininity and uniqueness of the style somehow cancelled that insecurity out. Dolling myself up like this has started to feel more like a drag persona recently and honestly I don't mind! Because of gyaru, I've gotten to know who I am, and nowadays I rarely feel the need to look at myself through the eyes of a spectator :]
On a completely different note, unfortunately I am very fashion-merchandising-brained about this subculture... every minute I think about the history I am on the verge of exploding into a million tiny pieces. It's all fun and games until I remember The System. When I have time, I'll probably ramble about trend cycles, consumerism, yada yada.
